Instituto de Investigaciones Marinas y Costeras (INVEMAR), is a national entity linked to the Ministry of Environmental and Sustainable Development, that carries out basic and applied research on marine and coastal ecosystems of national interest in order to provide the necessary scientific knowledge for the formulation of policies, decision-making and the development of plans and projects, aimed at the sustainable management of resources, the recovery of the marine and coastal environment and the improvement of the quality of life of Colombians, through the rational use of the scientific capacity. Its main headquarter is located in Santa Marta, Colombia.
